Every parent wants the best for their child. We want them to be happy and successful in
life, and as parents, we may have certain expectations for them. It’s crucial to remember
that every one of our children has their own goals and journeys to take as we work to
give them the best chances and support them in reaching their full potential.
It’s important to remember that your child is born with hundreds of psychological traits
not determined by you! It’s easy to feel responsible for everything your child does and
how they turn out. Still, it’s important to remember that your child is a unique genetic
mosaic of your extended family. We cannot force our children to fit into our expectations.
We must be careful not to stifle their creativity and dreams by imposing our ideals on
them. As a parent, your role is more like that of a shepherd- not an engineer. You are
simply a shepherd to a unique individual! It is crucial to provide the right environment
and nourishment to help your child grow. Still, you can’t design them- so don’t feel guilty
if things don’t turn out as expected. Our job is to be there for them and guide them as
they grow and develop. We can help them cultivate their strengths and encourage them
to try new things, but ultimately, they must be free to make decisions and pursue their
paths. We can provide them with the tools they need to be successful, but eventually,
it’s up to them to make the most of their potential. We can guide and advise them, but
finally, they must be allowed to make their own decisions.
